An emotional AI voice platform for developers building voice agents and AI companions that read and respond to the emotional tone of human speech.

Hume AI is a voice intelligence platform built around two core APIs. The Empathic Voice Interface reads emotional cues in a caller's voice and adjusts the AI's tone in real time, making conversations feel noticeably less robotic.
The companion product, Octave TTS 2, generates expressive speech from text at under 200 milliseconds of latency across 11 languages.
Both products are intended for developers only: there is no standalone consumer interface, just SDKs for Python, TypeScript, React, Swift, and .NET that plug directly into existing applications.
The platform is used across several categories of voice products. Mental health applications use EVI to detect distress and soften the assistant's response before the user disengages. Customer service teams deploy it to recognize frustration and reroute conversations before they escalate.
Game studios and VR developers use Octave TTS to give characters voices that shift with narrative mood. A separate product, the Expression Measurement API, analyzes emotion in audio recordings, video, and text for research teams and call center analytics platforms that need measurement without a speaking AI.
Compared to ElevenLabs, the dominant alternative, Hume trades some raw voice quality for emotional responsiveness. Independent benchmarks give ElevenLabs a speech naturalness score of around 90 percent versus Hume's 79 percent, and ElevenLabs renders audio about 30 milliseconds faster.
The gap closes on price: Hume's per-character cost is roughly 58 percent lower, and Octave TTS 2 cut those rates by half again at its 2026 launch. For content creators who want the highest fidelity clone of a human voice, ElevenLabs remains the default.
For developers who need the AI to respond differently depending on how a user sounds, Hume has no direct equivalent.
